This is a project using multiple artforms, diverse locations and a variety of different community groups to take a look at Scotland’s varied landscape and its connections to the wider world. Be it music, film, words or dance; each can interpret the scenery of the land and the characteristics of people. This project will explore the idea that no matter which geography you inhabit, you can be at the epicentre of a universal enquiry.

We are working in 4 key locations across Aberdeenshire:
The project has 3 distinct elements running from April – November. The results will be shown in a festival at the end of November at Woodend Barn and other venues across Deeside.
1) Tiny Geographies - Artist Chris Dooks will be working in our 4 key locations, producing 4 short films of each area. He will interview different people who connect with the places – young nature groups, walkers, rangers etc – recording sounds, photographing and filming with them. Tiny Geographies will create several hours of material including interviews and photographs, field recordings and more.
2) The Scott Skinner Antenna – Paul Anderson and Aidan O’Rourke are two of Scotland’s leading contemporary fiddle players. They have very different styles, but both draw inspiration from Scotland’s natural landscape and share an admiration for the work of Scott Skinner. We have invited Paul and Aidan to host performances and workshops in the 4 locations, commissioning them to each compose a new piece in response to these natural environments. They will work with young and old fiddlers, exploring Scott Skinner techniques and the connections between music, land and people.
3) The final piece of our puzzle will involve inviting other artists and local people to create their responses to these locations. Asking questions of what these landscapes mean to them, inviting them to view them with fresh eyes and to think about global issues of nature, sustainaibility and what value these places bring to our daily lives.
This project is supported by Creative Scotland, Aberdeenshire Council's Be Part of the Picture project and Visit Scotland.
