The Scott Skinner Square Refurbishment Project aims to revitalise an important public space in Banchory and create a new brand identity for the town as a whole. DUFI-ART have been chosen by the community as the artists to lead on this project.
When it was designed in the early 1990s, Scott Skinner Square was intended for use as a public space and events venue, but the space is now underused. Community consultations over the last few years have identified improvements in the square as a priority for the town.
The refurbishment project will rejuvenate Scott Skinner Square as an attractive and vibrant civic space which will become a focal point for Banchory Town Centre and a space that is welcoming for local people and visitors alike.
DUFI is a creative collaboration of artists and designers Fin Macrae and Alister MacInnes, based in the Highlands.
The artists have been commissioned to stimulate debate about what Banchory means to its community and visitors, and what its core values are. They will develop an intensive programme of activities with local people and groups to help them gather information about the town and what it means to its residents.
The Scott Skinner Square Refurbishment Project is a partnership between Aberdeenshire Council and the Banchory community. Overall responsibility for the project sits with the Banchory Town Centre Improvement Group and Woodend Barn are managing the project on their behalf.
Working together for over ten years, DUFI share an enthusiasm for photography, graphics, typography and urban art.
You can follow their work on the project via this blog.
