Tucked away at the back of the Woodend Barn lies the area, a little smaller than a football pitch, known as the Wild Garden. Just turn to your right as you approach the Barn front door, follow the building all the way round to the back and just walk in !
Being a Wild garden, you’d obviously expect it to be run by Wild Gardeners, and yes, there are currently five of those...... Carol and Ed, Joan and Tom and Ronald.
Anyone can come along and join in as there’s always lots to do and just like them, you’ll soon be captivated by the rural atmosphere and lovely surroundings.
There are lots of things to see and do in the Wild Garden as a stroll around will reveal the myriad activities of birds and insects and less obvious animals like moles, all busy doing things, mainly concerned with feeding.
Arrival in the Garden takes you past the four seasons heather rockery and the notice board which outlines the layout and reasons for the Garden being started in the first place. Its resurrection took place about three years ago and since that time the stream has been cleared, four wooden benches are in place at regular intervals for those who might need a frequent rest, a stone cairn had been reshaped, the heather rockery was introduced, a children’s platform over the edge of the stream has been installed, five sitting out areas have been cleared including one big enough to seat around thirty five people for outdoor concerts etc , on very large stones, two sections of ground have been reserved and prepared for wild flowers and wild plants, there’s an area for art or other classes to be held, and perhaps most useful of all, around three hundred and fifty metres of paths have been laid out for folks to walk round the entire Garden.
Lots of time, dedication and effort goes into making this Wild Garden a place to come and sit out and enjoy and relax in. The Wild Gardeners are all of the same mind, that the giving of their efforts are intended to make it into a bonny and natural place for visitors to simply enjoy being.
So, make time to come and stroll around, or sit or relax in whatever way takes your fancy! Its Wild Garden time!
